Move from Azure blob to Amason S3

Post by frankive »

Is it possible to move all our GFS data from azure blob to amazon s3?
This is due to a policychange in the company not keeping office365 backup in the same system as office 365 resides..

Hi Frank,

Unfortunately, this is something we haven't tested or verified yet. I also am kind of afraid that the egress cost will be very high. It might be more interesting to do full backups again, depending on the size of the organization.

We are aware that this becomes a business scenario for certain organizations, to have the possibility to move data from one object storage to another, and we have it on the discussion table.

Hmm, ok.. for now we will just let the backup up until this date stay in the azure blob as a archive, and start a new full backup in the S3 and then delete the azure blog as soon as the retention policies has passed this data in a manual way.

Actually, the retention works "outside" the job. So if you still have the repository registered in VBO, even without a job pointing to it, the retention should be done automatically.

There's another option - right click on the organization and in the Explorer you'll see a combined view for all associated repositories.

Great! But where is this "assosication" between the different repositories, in this instanceour old azure blob and the new s3? As far as i can see the assosication between a repository and organization is on the actual job?

When browsing backups from the Org node, there'll be a combined view for all of the associated repositories. By if you are only interested, say, in Azure backups and you know the date when you have switched from one repository to another, you can simply open those older restore points and they will only include the data from your Azure repository. Makes sense?

Hey Frank,

If you look at this page: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=40

You will see that we maintain the organization ID and such on that repository. So once it is added, we know it again

Hope it helps

I have the same question for VBR; if it is possible to move from azure object storage to amazon S3... should I create a new topic for that or will the answer be the same..?
Better to start a new backup job to another SOBR repostiory with Amazon?

The answer will probably be different as they work entirely different (different data type being stored). So best would be to ask this in the VBR forum.
