v11 - Aligned writes

v11 what's new said:

Unaligned writes impact both storage CPU usage and performance, so v11 will avoid them by aligning each backup file data block to a 4 KB boundary. This feature is enabled by default for newly created repositories and can be mass enabled on the existing repositories with the Set-VBRBackupRepository cmdlet. Active full backup is not required for the new setting to take effect.

Is aligned write already activated on old ReFS repo ? (I think yes).

How to convert existing repository to aligned writes ? I see the cmd-let powershell but no documentation about it.

Bonjour,

You're absolutely correct, it's already enabled on all existing ReFS and XFS repos.

To enable on other existing repositories, the easiest is to just select the corresponding check box in the repository settings.

Or use PowerShell to mass-enable, the documentation can be found in the PowerShell Reference.
Specifically, you need Set-VBRBackupRepository with the AlignDataBlocks parameter.
