Server move

Post by Matt@ »

I currently have a physical Veeam server, which is also a backup repository with local storage running Veeam B&R 10. I would like to virtualise the sever and move to v11, whilst keeping the physical box as a repository. Is there a guide on how to do this? Should I go to 11 first, then migrate?

Recommendations welcomed...

Thanks!

I would do it this way:

1. Upgrade Veeam V11
2. Let Backup Jobs run at least 1-2 days
3. Disable all Backup/Backup Copy Jobs
4. Export Configuration Backup:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
5. Install the new VBR Server on your Vm with a new database
6. Import Configuration Backup from the old vbr
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
7. Uninstall the old vbr software from your physical Server
8. Add the old path from your old Backup Server as a Repo (Direct Attached Storage Repo, not cifs)
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
9. Rescan the Repo (choose „Import existing backups automatically“ in the wizard)
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
10. Edit your Backup Jobs and map the backup chain to the newly configured Backup Repo
(Step 3)

11. Start the Backups Jobs again
