Size of backup in thin mode

Post by LucasFr »

Hello !

I am currently of scaling the size of the backup repository for our backups.
For information, the VMs are in thick provisioning, but the storage array (MSA 1050) is in thin provisioning.

So, for example :
If i have a VM in vSphere with 40 GB disk, but only 10 GB on the storage array, the size of the backup will be 40 GB ? or 10 GB ?

This example does not take into account possible compression or deduplication.

PS : I use the "Direct SAN" for backup my infrastructure

thx

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

Veeam is backing up only the used space. So thin / thick provisioning is irrelevant. 10GB will be backed up in your example.

It looks like you are new to Veeam. So I recommend the quick start guide. In every job run we show how much data we backed up.

Best regards,
Hannes
