Sharing backup proxies
I'm looking to backup a Veeam server in Virtual Appliance mode. Having it backup itself does not work so I was thinking of having a different machine (physical) back it up/replicate locally and then replicate offsite. Can I use a offsite proxy shared between two different onsite backup servers?
Per release notes: Sharing the same backup proxies and repositories between multiple backup servers is not
supported.
Not sure if this is using the built in proxy on a backup server or sharing the one offsite proxy.
Thanks,
Marty

Yes, as per release notes, this is not supported for any proxies. Thanks.

Re: Sharing backup proxies
Same rules of backing up a Veeam VM server in v5 same for Veeam v6?
Use different Veeam server (onsite) or different Veeam server + different proxy (offsite) or setup things so the SQL database is on a different server which is already being backed up/replicated?
2nd question: is the SQL database far less important in v6? Replica's should be self sufficient via snapshots and backups can be imported?

Re: Sharing backup proxies
Exactly. Or, disable application-aware processing for Veeam VM. In other words, no differences from v5.
SQL database is as important as before, but new replica gives you more options in case you actually lost SQL with the disaster. Please review the replication section of the sticky FAQ topic on what do you lose if you perform failover manually by powering on VM with vSphere Client versus using Veeam B&R UI.
