Windows Agent: standalone vs. managed

Post by borgiaj »

Hello everyone.

I have what I think is a dumb question probably, but I've been reading and I can't seem to determine what the benefit of standalone vs. managed for the agent for Windows.

Is there a benefit? It would seem easier to manage the agent from one place.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

If you are looking for the detailed description, you can check it here.

Standalone agents allow the users to perform more actions and it depends on your infrastructure which option to chose.
If you need a simple use case for standalone agent usage - if I need to protect only my own machine, I would use standalone agent.

Thanks!

Hi Joe.

I use both modes depending on the situation.

I use StandAlone when a System Admin tells me that they want a physical machine backed up at a specific time of day.

Otherwise, I use managed mode. One of the great things about managed mode is it's extremely simple to update 5 or 10, or whatever number, of physical machines at one time with "one pane of glass" (VBR console).

Hope this helps.
