Daily and Weekly backups to Tape

Post by RyanTK »

Hi All,

Perhaps I'm over thinking this but I seem to be running into some issues setting up both daily fulls from a sql server to tape as well as weekly from a file share to tape. I have one tape device with a single tape drive with a 15 tape GFS pool. The SQL to tape job was typically being run weekly and we are looking to change it to daily due to some system changes.

GFS media set to Daily with 14 day protection, Weekly with 4 week protection period.

Right now any tape job runs into an waiting on tape stand still where the tape claims its being used by another job.

Thoughts or best practices on Daily/Weekly tape jobs are welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

Just to clarify... the "SQL to tape"... is that a "file-to-tape" job or a "backup-to-tape" job?

vs.

GFS only works for machines, not for file shares (which I understand you try to back up to tape): https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
You can create GFS backups for VMs and Veeam agent computers (physical machines) on tape.
Best regards,
Hannes
