Split large backups into multiple vbk-files?
Hello everyone
Can a backup with a large amount of data be split up into multiple .vbk files?
e.g.: Is there an option to split the vbk-file every 100Gb?
Thanks!

Hi,
Currently there is no such built-in functionality in VAL.
May I ask you to provide more details about your use-case?
Thanks!

Re: Split large backups into multiple vbk-files?
Hi,
Thanks for the reply!
Sure. The use case is an environment with big amounts of data that need to be backed up, an unstable network connection (copying of backup files might be interrupted) and besides that some of our systems run file systems that can't handle big files too well (e.g. fat 32).
The backup job length exceeds 24 hours because the hardware that's being used is too slow (can't be exchanged though).
Thanks for your reply!

Understood. I've noted your request, although there is no guarantee that the requested functionality will be added soon.
Thanks!
Are you referring to Backup Copy Job, or you use another method of copying backups somewhere?an unstable network connection (copying of backup files might be interrupted)
FAT32? But why?For that and besides that some of our systems run file systems that can't handle big files too well (e.g. fat 32)
Thanks!

A (belated) thank you for noting our request!
I was referring to the Backup Copy Job.
Good question FAT32 is being used by a customer - Why? I'm at loss...

Well, if it's Backup Copy Job, then it is supposed to be able to handle interruptions. How bad are the disconnects that you experience?
I also suggest to look into seeding. With seeding VBR won't have to transfer all VBK blocks, it will have to transfer only incremental blocks instead.
Thanks!
