Full tape backup from incremental disk to disk

Post by DCWhitworth »

Currently we back our servers up disk to disk, our backup server pulls incremental backups down to a large disk array. I want to write our backups to tape once this is done, but I want the data written to tape to be a full backup, not just the incremental data. Can anyone given me some guidance on the best way to achieve this ? Thanks

If you use Backup to Tape Jobs and you tell the Job to write a full backup, then we will create a virtual full backup.

Just setup the tape job and it will create a synthetic full.. that means it works out all the blocks required from the backup repository to create a full backup for the latest restore point, it then writes it to tape. This is what I do.

Just be aware if the source is a backup copy job, I found some issues with timing until I changed to the immediate copy jobs and then all was good.
