Replica Fail Over Testing

Post by DarkAlman »

We are planning to perform a DR Test with our Replica VMs.

The VMs have replicated successfully over to our DR site, and I have them in a specific isolated subnet so that I can power them up without affecting production.

Just confirming my understanding of the process:

1. Go to Replicas in Veeam and for each VM I select 'Failover Now'

2. The VM will power up from the selected restore point at DR, but the production VMs won't be affected

How do I spin them now when we are done? Do I need to reseed these VMs?

None of the data from during the test has to be saved.

Also is there any way to automatically change the VM network assigned to the NIC? I already have the VMs set to re-ip automatically via Veeam

Are you using VmWare?
If yes, configure SureReplica Jobs (enterprise license needed).
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

It will automate the replica testing for you in an isolated environment.

And you do not need to reseed anything in either case, replication jobs will continue normally if you undo failover.

SureReplica is desinged for these kinds of tests in a VMware environment. Please note that re-ip will not happen in a SureReplica test. If this is a VMware environment, you may be interested in looking at VDRO (Veeam Disater Recovery Orchestrator) if deeper tests & reporting are required.

You can change the network assignment in the Network tab in the replication job. If the Network tab is not visible, check the box that reads "Network Remapping (for DR sites with different virtual networks)" on the first page of the job.

Information about undoing failover is available here: undo failover
