Backup of VM having Multiple Datastores

Post by sammyta »

Hi, I would like to know if veeam supports/recommends backup of a VM (database server) having multiple data stores or on a single data store?

For us that has never been a problem and as far as i know is fully supported. We have this on every VM > 2 TB.
After all vVol can be backed up as well and with that concept every VM disk is in a seperate storage "container". So not supporting multiple datastores would not make sense...

Thank You.

So just to confirm this is applicable to hyper-converged infrastructure. We have HCI and our datastore is linked across several physical storages within the HCI. What would be your thoughts on this?

Do you do direct SAN Access for the backup? If i am not wrong otherwise the physics behind the datastore should not be relevant to Veeam...

Perhaps someone from Veeam directly can confirm this :-)

Hello,

I'm wondering to know what type of workloads are we talking about: vSphere, Hyper-V or Nutanix AHV? For example, Direct SAN mode cannot be used if a VM resides on vSAN or has at least one disk on VVol.

Thanks!

Hello,

All disks must be located on the same NFS store if you're going to run backup from storage snapshots, please refer to this page to get more information regarding limitations on Cisco Hyperflex. Other transport modes do not have limitations related to number of datastores for a single VM. Anyway, it's worth checking this section.

Thanks!
