AWS VTL and WORM

Post by stuart_little1874 »

We have the following use case where we want to use AWS VTL with WORM Tapes...

-- NetApp Volume Snapshots and then to Remote Snapvaults
-- we then NDMP the Remote Snapvaults to AWS VTL

When using Standard Tapes (created in AWS) it works great.

I'm being asked to see if we can use WORM tapes. AWS allows us to create WORM Tapes which I can import to Veeam

The question I'd like to ask is what the retention on the WORM Tapes look like? I know they are write once, but our use case is to prevent them being deleted for a sub-set of time. When would we be able to delete these tapes from AWS?

Hello,
did you try what AWS writes in this blog post? https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/storage/pr ... tion-lock/
Once WORM tapes are created, they cannot be deleted from the VTL unless you have the appropriate IAM storagegateway:DeleteTape permission.
Best regards,
Hannes

Hello Stuart,

Retention will be disabled in Veeam B&R WORM Media Pools since we cannot overwrite or erase WORM tape (or it's emulation). Veeam B&R will keep the information about the recorded WORM media and it's data until you manually remove those tape from catalog. Cheers!
