Hello All.
I rent a ubuntu server from a company but they do not provide any backup solutions.
I have a home lab with a veeam install which I'm still learning. i've manually added the server to veeam and it shows in the managed path as online etc. but when i schedule a backup job it fails.
for ease i have allowed all ports from my home IP to access the linux box and have forwarded all traffic from the public IP of the remote linux box to my veeam server. the firewall logs show lots of comminication between the two.
The error I see is Error: Failed to execute agent management command startBackup. Failed to connect to the port [172.16.10.102:10006]. Failed to connect: veeam:10006; 172.16.10.102:10006
172.16.10.102 is the IP address of my veeam backup server.
i'm obviously doing something wrong or trying to do something that isnt possible.

Re: Internet facing linux machine
Hi,
If all required ports are open, please open a Support ticket and share its ID.
Support will be able to check your logs.
Also, does telnet work?
telnet 172.16.10.102 10006
Thanks!

Re: Internet facing linux machine
Hi,
As for the actual problem:
Besides other information VBR also tells the Agent the address the VBR server is running on. As one can guess, in your case it's 172.16.10.102, so the Agent tries to go exactly to that address.
In order to make it work you need to configure routing on the linux host so that it knows how to reach 172.16.10.102
Thanks!
Please note that configurations where either VBR or Agent is behind NAT are not officially supported.and have forwarded all traffic from the public IP of the remote linux box to my veeam server. the firewall logs show lots of comminication between the two.
As for the actual problem:
I bet it's an address inside your local home network behind the NAT, isn't it?Error: Failed to execute agent management command startBackup. Failed to connect to the port [172.16.10.102:10006]. Failed to connect: veeam:10006; 172.16.10.102:10006
