Dependencies between backup jobs

hi,

actually we have following scenario:

- backup server running veeam, also contains cifs share for backup
- backup proxy

we setup 2 different jobs running synthetic backup.

because both backup jobs backup to same cifs share we would avoid
build parallel create of fullsynthetic / incremental backup.
setup different time windows is not an option because amount of
vmwares in backup job1 could increase.

ideally second backup job could start after job1 has finished.
if it's possible to run a backup job in command line then
an idea would be running job 1, if this is finished running job2
as post command

is this possible?

- create job 1 and schedule it daily
- create job 2 and do not schedule it
- create powershell script to run job2
- running powershell script after job1 is finished

but will be the job2 also use the polices set in job (keep backups 14 days, every saturday build
fullsynthetic) when it's started by powershell script?

You honestly don't need powershell to simply chain jobs. On the final page of the job wizard (Summary) the wizard displays the command line that you can execute to run this job. Simply don't schedule the second job, but copy the command for running this second job, and paste it into the "post-job activity" of the first job. Poof! Chained jobs, no scripting required (with all apologies to Thomas).

Each job will use its own settings when it is started.

I concur with that, as by limiting concurrent task by one at a time you will resolve your jobs scheduling issues and will not use any scripts at all!

Note that if you have more than one proxy, then you can instead limit concurrent tasks on backup repository to one, and this will give the same result. Thanks.
