Moving backups between disks on a SOBR

Post by Lewispoll »

Hi guys,

We currently have 4 X 4Tb disks making up a 16Tb SOBR.
One of the disks is full and I'm trying to move one of the backups from this disk to another (not sure why Veeam doesn't do this automatically)

Is it simply a case of copying the full backup, VMB & increments to a new disk then rescanning the repository?

I've read documentation on moving backups into a SOBR but cant find anything on moving within disks on a SOBR, if anyone has a link for a KB on this matter that would be great

Thanks

Hi Nikolaj,

Thanks for your reply, the first KB was very useful!
Just to confirm - sorry for not mentioning this earlier - these backups are cloud backups, will this have any affect on the process?

We have access to the veeam clients on the customers server if that helps

Thanks,
Lewis

Hi Lewis,

Yes, it will work on Cloud Connect backups, the process is almost identical to local SOBRs.
Please follow the instructions from this article:
1. Disable the tenant or the job that needs to be migrated.
2. Migrate the whole backup chain including .vbm file to another extent.
Backups need to be placed in the same folder starting from repository root.
3. Navigate to Veeam Cloud Connect Server -> Veeam Backup and Replication Console -> Backup infrastructure-> Scale-out Repositories -> Right-click on the affected SOBR -> Rescan.
4. Enable the tenant/job.
