Linux backup proxies cannot be used for guest interaction

Post by tomh@kuecker.com »

I am using Veeam 11 - according to the documentation a linux proxy cannot be used for guest interaction. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
I would like to replace my windows proxy, but if I understand correctly, if I switch to linux I will not be able to backup my windows server with "Application-Aware Processing" - is that correct? What about restoring guest files from my windows server . . . would a linux proxy be able to work with that?

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

It just means that application aware processing will be done by the backup server (automatic failback). https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

For file restore, the proxy is irrelevant. File restore happens from the mount-server (usually the repository) to the VM https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

Best regards,
Hannes

Ok so if I understand you correctly both would then be used in a backup job . . . linux proxy for most the backup process and the backup server itself for the application aware processing side?

yep, the Linux proxy does the actual data transfer while the backup server does the work inside the VMs
