To anyone who is intimately competent with the read/write characteristics of Veeam Backup Agent

Would a MicroSD Card be a poor choice for local backup destination?

yes. it would be a poor choice.

USB sticks and MicroSD cards are not good backup medias just by the design of those. You can find some good videos in the internet that discuss this topic at lenght. Many share the view that those media store an approximation of the data.

Largely depends on your microsd card durability (YMMV, depending on the manufacturer), your backup settings (transforms of a forever-incremental backup chain will kill it faster), and for how long you are going to keep backups on the card.

If it's a modern, high-class card for short-term backups, and your backup chain will have periodic fulls, then I'd say it's OK to use microsd. If you laptop has a built-in microsd slot, then why not to use it as an additional storage.

Overall, it's always recommended to keep at least a secondary copy (or two, 1-2-3 rule) of your stuff elsewhere, so you need to think about how you are going to copy copy those backups from microsd.
