Veeam 6 VBM files - required for restore?

I clone my last full (VBK) files once a month from our DataDomain to tape for off-site storage.
With v6 I see there's now a 'jobname'.vbm (metadata?) file created.
Do I require this if for example, I ever need to pull back a VBK file from tape and do a restore of a VM (or files within a VM)? or can I safely ignore it and not bother modifying my script to put that on tape too.

Allan, VBM files (backup metadata, indeed) are not required for restore but significantly increase backup import performance (in case you need to import your backups to a brand new Veeam B&R server during DR). Thanks.

Thanks for that - so can I just confirm.
If at the time I copy to tape, my last full was 3 days old (lets say done on a Sunday) and since then 3 incrementals had been made. If I copied my full and the VBM file to tape, I'm not going to hit issues when I try and do an import as the meta data has info on backup files that are now not there am I?

You will be able to import such backup just fine but since you have no incremental files available, you will be able to restore to the only restore point stored in VBK file.
