[v6 replication] Disks changed from thin to thick

Post by maxfontana »

Hi there.
I tried a vm replica from my host1 with local storage to host2 with local storage. Everything ok but the disk provisioning changed from thin to thick!
In addition, I cannot expand the disk size of the replicated vm.It is greyed out....
Any suggestions?
thanks and regards

Sorry I made a mistake.
Vsphere client (inthe vm edit settings tabs) is telling me that the disk is thick but browsing the datastore indicates that the disk is still in thin provisioning ...

Hi Max,

How many replication job runs have you already performed? I assume you have done at least one incremental run, right?

Please be aware that if you create a snapshot on any thin disk, it will be marked as thick in vSphere Client (by VMware's design), even though it is still thin. Taking into account that our new replication engine is using snapshots as restore points in time, then this behavior is expected.

On top of that, why do you want to extend replicated disk size? I'm not sure it is supported, as this change may break your existing replication job.

Thanks.

Yes, you cannot do that easily - this would require re-replication.
