Functionality Loss Between Agent Backup on a VM vs Vsphere API?

Post by MaxDes »

I am just looking to se what loss, if any, in functionality or speed, is there utilizing an agent backup vs the vsphere backup of a VM in Veeam?

Cheers,

Hello,
speed depends on your environment (storage integration, network etc.). The agent also can do multiple GByte/s, so in general it's possible.

Instant VM recovery is possible, but requires more manual work to set hardware "correctly" again.

Well, you have to manage agents... what is the reason you are thinking about that option?

Most options are very similar.

Best regards,
Hannes

Because I was told, the only supported way of using Bitlocker on a destination volume which contains a veeam repository, is to use the agent backup.

ah - related to post412444.html#p412444

I assume that my colleague believed that you are asking for an Bitlocker encrypted VM. With an in-guest-encrypted VM, file level restore would be complicated with VM-based backup.

Probably a misunderstanding :-)
