Seesion Report

Post by JoPo »

Hello,
one question:
By some VMs (not all) is on the session report in the column "read" the same size like the column "size".
And the backup times of this VMs are very long.
But the "Transferred" size is less the "read" size.
What can I understand of "read" column?

Hello JoPo,

Processed — total size of all VM disks processed by the job.

Read — amount of data read from the datastore by the source-side Data Mover Service prior to applying compression and deduplication. For incremental job runs, the value of this counter is typically lower than the value of the Processed counter. Veeam Backup & Replication reads only data blocks that have changed since the last job session, processes and copies these data blocks to the target.

Transferred — amount of data transferred from the source-side Data Mover Service to the target-side Data Mover Service after applying compression and deduplication. This counter does not directly indicate the size of the resulting files. Depending on the backup infrastructure and job settings, Veeam Backup & Replication can perform additional activities with data: deduplicate data, decompress data prior to writing the file to disk and so on. The activities can impact the size of the resulting file.

Hello Dima P.

Thank you for the answer. The link it very helpful.

But I don't understand this one.
First Example:

VM (Full Backup):
Size Read Transferred Duration
279,8 GB 279,8 GB 69 GB 2:16:21

Same VM (Incr. Backup)
Size Read Transferred Duration
279,8 GB 279,8 GB 943,3 MB 2:32:32

Why is the "Read" the equal like the "Size"?
Why is the duration almost equal on the Full Backup and the Incremental Backup?
-
Another example (other VM on the same ESXi-Server; same backup job)

VM (Full Backup):
Size Read Transferred Duration
100 GB 62,5 GB 56,4 GB 0:23:12

Same VM (Incr. Backup)
Size Read Transferred Duration
100 GB 62,3 GB 1,5 GB 0:10:37

These data are clear for me.
Differences between the VMs?

Can you confirm that CBT is used for virtual disks of VM in question? Check job session log and see whether there is [CBT] tag next to the the reading disk record. Thanks!
