SAP MAXDB - Backint Support

Post by rbienvault » 2 people like this post

Hello,

We are currently using the plugin for SAP HANA, we have more than 10 deployed at the moment and adding more in the future.
To avoid putting content (attached file on SAP) on a in-memory database, we are going to use Content Server that is using a SAP MAXDB.

Our maxdb will start from 100 Gb and go up to several terabytes.
As company policy, we have an RPO of an hour for the production system.

Max DB has 2 possible ways :
- Use of backint maxdb
Advantage : allow to backup logs and we can guarantee company sla
- Use of vm pre-freeze and post-thaw to freeze i/o and backup the disks
Inconvenient : Not possible to guarantee RPO

Do you have in the veeam roadmap this kind of plugin to allow maxdb support through backint ?
We are available to do testing is necessary.

Thanks for the help !

Hi Romain,

Thanks for sharing the idea! We have not yet added the plug-in for SAP MAXDB Backint to our roadmap.

Thanks!

Hi,

We are interested to use Veeam with Backint too, to Backup SAP MaxDB - Content Server (9TB VM).
And we also need to backup/delete archived logs like others application-aware processing.

Thanks,
Miguel

Hi,

please note that we provide a VSS Backup Integration for MaxDB, see http://maxback.io.
It is used by many Veeam customers looking for a smooth way to backup MaxDb.

It supports all here requested features like log truncation and consistent backups.

Best Regards,
Frank

Hello,

Thank you for your solution on this.
But we cannot use this solution as for running SAP on production we need to have a SAP Certified ans supported solutions.
Also, this solution use Windows and our current deployment are on Red Hat, that make this solution not applicable to our infrastructures.

Back on SAP MAXDB, i see on the documentation that MaxDB is supporting Backint for Oracle (https://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_8/44/c35d8b ... ameset.htm), is someone already tested it with the plugin provided for Veeam 11 ?

Thanks !

Hi Romain,

I guess it might work in theory but anyway we do not support it because we did not test this scenario.

Thanks!

First of all, we need to prioritize the feature request in order to find available engineering resources to perform a full cycle of tests. We'll keep it in mind and perhaps we'd be able to provide support for this scenario in one of our future releases.

Thanks!
