VM Quick backup without existing Full backup
Hello.
I would like to ask you how to use Veeam10 in this scenario.
I have got a backup job with 100VMs.
I will and one new VM into the backup job.
Then I would like to perform the first full backup of the new VM.
But I do not want to start INCR backup of original 100VMs.
I need something like Quick backup, but without existing any backup for the new VM added to backup job.
Is there any way how to do it?
Thank you
Jan

Re: VM Quick backup without existing Full backup
If you need a backup fast, use VeeamZip:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
If you have added a new vm and you can wait for the normal scheduled runtime, then veeam will automatically create a new fullbackup of this vm.
With „per Vm Backup Chain“: a new vbk is generated
With „per Job Backup Chain“: the fullbackup of this vm will be in a vib file or in a vbk file, if it‘s the day of the scheduled fullbackup for the job.

Re: VM Quick backup without existing Full backup
Hi.
Thank you for info.
I know about the possibility of VeeamZip.
But is an independent backup with no relation to backup job.
If I use VeeamZip I will have independent Full backup and when scheduled backup job starts it will produce another full backup in the context of backup job.
What I need is to create only one Full backup (out of schedule) only for the new VM and scheduled backup job will then create INCR backup for this new VM and also original VMs in the backup job.

Re: VM Quick backup without existing Full backup
There isn't a official way for that. If you need a standalone Fullbackup of a vm right away, then quick backup or a dedicated backup Job is the way to go.
But you can try this (test it, I can not give you any guarantee that this will work ):
1) Edit your backup job, exclude all other vms
2) Start the Backup Job
3) Wait until the job is finished
4) Edit your backup Job again and delete the exclusions
Now your backup Job will run again with all vms on the next scheduled time.

Re: VM Quick backup without existing Full backup
Hello,
Why don't simply add a VM into a job as Fabian has suggested in this post? The job will create full backup for a new VM, then it continues to make incrementals according to schedule.
If there is a requirement to create full backup for a new VM out of schedule, one more way to do it will be to clone the existing job and to keep only a new VM in the cloned job, you can just remove all other VMs from it, perhaps it would be easier than to enable and disable exclusions in the original backup job.
Thanks!

Re: VM Quick backup without existing Full backup
Hello.
Thank you for tips.
Ad1) We need to start Full backup immediately on request, so we can not wait until scheduled backup start.
Ad2) We do not want to create separate backup job for Full and then create another Full as a part of scheduled backup where is the new VM added.
If quick backup could work without existing Full backup it would be the option we are looking for.
But we will have to use possibility 1 or 2, because there is probably no other option how to do it.

Re: VM Quick backup without existing Full backup
Hi Jan,
The idea is to have completely separate job for this VM but not to process the same VM by two different jobs: the first full will be created during manual run of this dedicated job and incrementals will be created according to schedule of this job.
Thanks!

[MERGED] Full backup of a new virtual machine
Hello,
I have a question.
I use Veeam Backup and Replication 11 to backup vms on a vmware cluster with 3 ESX 6.7.
If I install a new virtual machine, it will be automaticly in the next backup in the evening.
But sometimes, I have to install a new vm I need to make a backup directly after install to save the first step before installing application and so on.
Right click and quick backup dosn't work, without one full backup.
Is there any way to start a full backup of a new vm, before it was backed up by the timeplan in the evening?
Thanks
Sylvie

Re: VM Quick backup without existing Full backup
Hello,
and welcome to the forums.
The scenario you have in mind is a "classic" feature request which is not directly in the product today. There is a workaround (see above), and we want to improve that in future.
Best regards,
Hannes
