v11 Backup-Copy-Job GFS Monthly without Weekly

Post by rleon »

Hi,

The documentation says this about Backup-Copy-Job GFS, when you enable Monthly without Weekly:
"If weekly backups are disabled, Veeam Backup & Replication creates monthly
full backups on the first day of the selected week (first day of the first week of
the month, or the first day of the last week of the month). A week equals to 7
calendar days; for example, the first week of May is days 1–7, and the last week
of May is days 25–31. You can choose to create the monthly backup on the first
or the last week of the month."

I'm just looking for a better definition for "First day of the first week of month", and "First day of the last week of month"
Let's say my GFS Monthly is set to first day of the first week of the month, which day exactly will Veeam flag (M) on each of the following examples:

2021 May-1(Sat), May-2(Sun), May-3(Mon)
2020 May-1(Fri), May-2(Sat), May-3(Sun), May-4(Mon)
2019 May-1(Wed), May-2(Thu), May-3(Fri), May-4(Sat), May-5(Sun), May-6(Mon)

I understand having the Weekly enabled would make this easier because you get to choose the exact weekday, but need to check in case some customers don't want GFS weeklies for some reason.

So, in essence, "First day of the first week of month" literally should have just been rewritten as "The 1st day of month" in the text, because the Day-of-Week(Sun,Mon,Tue...) is not taken in to consideration at all?
And the "First day of the last week of month" should have been "Including the last day of the month, count exactly 7 days backward." in the text, so to be more precise?

I won't be surprised if some would confuse "First day of a week" to a Sunday, or in some places, a Monday, because that's how most calendars define it.

yes, it's written pretty complicated. Let me check a few things and I will come back on this topic.

“first” means: 1st of each month

“last” means different dates depending how long the month is
- for a month with 31 days: 25th of that month
- for a month with 30 days: 24th of that month
- for a month with 29 days: 23rd of that month
- for a month with 28 days: 22nd of that month

I'm working on the change in the user guide (can take some time)

UPDATE: user has has been changed
