Removing Windows agent when Veeam server is gone?

Post by ValiantMartian »

Veeam 11 - I have a bunch of Windows physical workstations that were never set up properly in Veeam. Many seem to have an agent installed by an old Veeam server that no longer exists. When doing a rescan of that AD group, most machines return an error like the following:

Skipping PCname.mydomain.com Details: Failed to acquire agent managed by OldVeeamServer.mydomain.com VBR Server

What is the easiest way to remove/redeploy the newest version of the agent to all of these erroring workstations?

Right click on the agent in the protection geoup view and remove it.
After that, try to add it again.
It‘s possible that you need to recreate veeam agent database on the client.

They actually don't show in the protection group. These PC's only show on screen as errors when I do a "rescan", so I don't have a way to push the Agent out to them. I can only seem to manage the few servers that ARE showing in the protection group.

You should be able to use this option:

Code: Select all

Veeam.Agent.Configurator.exe -removeOwner /i /force
After that, new VBR will pick it up from here on.

/Cheers!

Thanks! I was able to create a PowerShell file with the following command, and execute against problematic workstations with a utility called BatchPatch. Most of them seem to be found and showing in the protection group now.

Start-Process -NoNewWindow -FilePath "C:\Program Files\Veeam\Endpoint Backup\Veeam.Agent.Configurator.exe" -ArgumentList "-removeOwner","/i","/force"
