Recovery Process?

Post by bunger »

I am setting up a new environment with the following:
B&R Server on Server 2019 backing up hyper-v vms, esx vms, and physical servers with agents
Linux Immutable Repository on Ubuntu with XFS and storage on XFS-formatted USB drive

Let's pretend my backup environment died and all I had was the XFS-formatted USB drive. To perform recoveries, would i have to do the following?

- stand-up new B&R server
- stand-up new linux box and attach XFS drive
- configure linux box as repository in new B&R server
- begin recovery

OR.... is there a linux Veeam B&R recovery ISO I can just hot boot from to begin recoveries?

OR... is there a Windows Veeam B&R recovery ISO I could just hot boot from, using the storage media was NTFS?

ps. yes, I am also keeping offsite copies of the backups... but am curious about the recovery process if the backups are stored on XFS-formatted media

Hi Bill

If you prefer native Veeam Backup and Replication GUI, than your path is right.
However, there is Veeam Backup Extract Utility that can run from any machine(Windows or Linux) to directly restore from backups without VBR Servers in possession.

/Cheers!
