Replacement Repository Storage

Post by bjdboyer »

Probably opening a big can of worms here, but we have a Veeam implementation for a customer and they're renewing the contract. They currently have an aging IBM V3700 array with NLSAS for the repository storage and a Cisco C220 as the repository server. it's all fibre channel and they (and us) really want to get off fibre channel and those switches. Could I get some recommendations for replacing this storage? Hopefully looking at some storage server with around 250TB of usable capacity. They have a lot of storage but not a lot of VM's being backed up. Over 100TB of that capacity is just 3 VM's. I read Gostev's latest blog post but wanted to get some other ideas on venders and solutions. They are replacing the VMware storage from an IBM V5030 to a new FS5200 flash system. Not sure if I want to piggyback on that with some drawers of NLSAS for Veeam.

So suggestions? For this customer price will also be an option for them. Internal storage, NLSAS, RAID6,...

Thanks,
Bill

I'm a big fan of Supermicro Storage servers because of how much tier 1 vendors overcharge for high capacity drives. Our current repository servers are made up of this server and a JBOD for additional drives, using RAID 60. https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/ ... 1CR36H.cfm and https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/ ... -R1K23JBOD
