Hello Ehsan,

Are you using local smtp server or some public email provider? Thanks!

Can you please check if allowing access for less secure apps in the gmail account properties resolves this issue? Thanks!

Then this issue could be related to connectivity or ports. Try to connect to one of the smtp servers over telnet client via cmd:

telnet your.smtpserver.com portnumber

Ports for smtp are 25, 465 or 587

[MERGED] email notification error "unable to connect to smtp server because of invalid credential"

Post by martim »

Case #04363157

Hi Guys,

I am using Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition. I tried to enable email notifications on my veeam but its showing an error "unable to connect to smtp server because of invalid credential" but i am sure i have given the correct credentials. Can anyone help me with this please?

I am using smtp.gmail.com

I have set the less secure apps in google. Which works fine.

I have tried to telnet to smtp.gmail.com with ports 25, 465 or 587 which seems all good.

I am using the setting:
Connect using SSL
Port: 465
Reguires auth. (username and password are checked and good)
if I want to use 587 (I need to have tls which I cannot check?)

Thanks for helping!

Hi Marcel,

I've moved your post to the existing thread.
Yes, you can use port 587.
Also, there is a configuration description which might help.

Thanks!

Re: unable to connect to smtp server because of invalid credentials

Hello,

I like to bring this topic up again, as I see this behaviour for a while
after updating to 4.0.1.2169 and then to 5.0.0.4301.

The credentials and ports are correct and the mails were sent correctly.

After the update I am able to send the test mail, but sending the report
after the job is denied with "unable to connect to smtp server because of
invalid credentials".

Is there an idea for that behaviour ?

Thanks, Greetings Marco.

There are no known issues with this functionality, so it must be your email settings or the SMTP server configuration. Feel free to open a support case to let our engineers troubleshoot. Thanks!

Hello Gostev,

Thanks for your reply. As mentioned before the testmail is sent correctly, therefore the credentials must be correct.
But the mail after the job is finished is not sent. I will open a ticket and see what happens, regards Marco.

Marco,

The issue might be related to the disabling TLS 1.0/1.1 in latest version of Veeam Agent for Windows (although, all email notifications should be affected including the test message). You can refer KB article in order to test the workaround. Please do not forget to share the case ID with us. Thank you!

Hi Dima,

Thanks, that was the final hint. Adding the registry-entries fixed it for me.
Reports are sent again.

Regards, Marco.
