1 Backup Repository - serving 2 VBR servers?

Post by Cheapers »

Hi, we have 2 remote sites which "by company policy" each get their own VBR server. Both VBR-environments make a Backup Copy to the same central datacenter, where also will be a VBEM server. My best guess is that it is not possible to use a single Backup Proxy / Repository Server / Backup Repository (server with local storage) in the datacenter (shared by the 2 VRB-servers). If someone could just confirm that this is not possible, I will internally advise a different solution. Thanks for responding.

This is a supported scenario when you use for the Repository 2 different folders, so that each B&R server do not see the backups of the other one (only in case of an emergecy you can define an additional Repository on the other servers data to be able to restore when the other Backup server is gone for whatever reason).

That said, there is no resource (CPU/RAM/IO) pooling or load balancing accross them. You need to use the backup copy jobs at different times or add additional resources to cover the load.

4 Repositry Task slots defined on one backup server and 5 Repository Task slots defined on the other backup server means you need hardware resources for 9 Repository task slots.
