File Share Backup Job Not Being Copied to SOBR
Hi,
I have a File Share (SMB) that i created a backup Job with SOBR.
The SOBR has a SMB and S3 storage.
The Backup copies successfully to the SMB
The SOBR says successful but nothing is being copied
I have a similar backup and it copies successfully to the S3
The difference I have noticed between the working SOBR and non working is that the working SOBR is a Hyper-V server and the other one not copying to S3 is a file share SMB.
The Hyper-V backup has vbm file in the backup folder and the File share backup does not have vbk instead it has vstore file.
I would like to confirm if the file share smb backup is supported by the SOBR because upon reading the Limitations of SOBR https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110 I did not read that file share or file back up is not supported.

Hello Angelo,
Capacity and Archive tiers of Scale-Out repository do not support nas backups, so offload works only for image-level backups. If you want to move old file versions from primary repository to an archive you can set archive repository via nas backup job. Thank you!

Thank you Dima for the information, it is really helpful.
May I know if you have recommendations of backing up our file share backup in the cloud?
Currently we do not have a preparation for our file share backup in case of disaster recovery.
We hope to have at least a backup in the cloud.
Thank you for your understanding of our situation.

Hello Angelo,
Can you please clarify what public cloud you want to use? Was that Amazon S3 or you have any other public clouds in mind? Thank you!

It‘s not possible yet to send a full copy of you Fileshare Backup to a object storage for DR purposes. That feature does not exist in veeam today.
As an alternative, You could try virtual tape from amazon to do a File to Tape Job.

Re: File Share Backup Job Not Being Copied to SOBR
Angelo,
Thanks for the feedback! The only workaround for now is file to tape jobs in conjunction with Amazon Tape Gateway. If you go that road please keep in mind that for file to tape jobs it's recommended to use SQL Standard as a Veeam B&R database (SSD for database storage would be perfect).

Hi,
Sorry to hijack this old thread.
It there anything on the road-map for new Veeam versions that do support S3 offloading via an SOBR for SMB backup jobs ?

Hi Richard
V12 will allow you to use object storage as a secondary target.
But not as a capacity tier in the SOBR. It will be direct copy to object storage.
Thanks
Fabian
