no data on tape after moving to another pool

Post by pob579 »

Hi,
I have a situation...

I moved the tape containing data to another pool (there was 108GB free space).
When clicked OK I got a message, something like "The retention period for some tapes didn't finish. Do you want to move anyway".
I clicked YES.

What I see now - free space is 2.4TB. So moving to another pool deleted DATA... I cannot believe.
See pics please.

Do I really lost the backed up Data? Never thought that moving tape to another pool will do it... and if it is so drastic action, I guess it should be a warning that moving tape will cause data loss.
Please help.

Hello Michael,

I couldn't find your Support case, could you share its ID? It's mandatory when you report a technical issue.
Also, I believe the Support engineers would be able to get your situation better.

Thanks!

Hey pob579,

Try inventorying the tape and see if the data comes back.

Moving between pools marks the tape as free, but this is a logical operation. Inventory ought read the MTF header and return the tape info. You can catalog it to get the catalog info back too.
