backup traffic Install backup proxy & backup repository on remote site to backup remote site PC from main site Veeam B&R

Post by j2wong »

Hi all,

If I install backup proxy and backup repository on remote site (remote site VM in ESXi host) to backup remote site PC from main site Veeam B&R, the backup traffic will direct transfer from remote PC to remote site backup repository via remote backup proxy? or the backup traffic will still go back to main site Veeam B&R from remote site backup proxy then from main site Veeam B&R go to remote site backup repository?

Many thanks.

If it‘s a PC, it involves a Veeam Agent. Veeam Agent doesn‘t use Veeam Proxys.

If you have configured a Veeam Backup Repository inside of VBR, and you have configured this in the veeam Agent Policy as a backup target, the Veeam Agent on your PC will send the backup data directly to this Backup Repository.

There are two exeptions.
If you use Dedup Appliances or NFS Backup Repos, veeam Agent will need to use a Gateway Server to deliver the backup data to the storage.

The answer to your question:
If you deploy a windows or linux backup repo, or a SMB Repo, backup traffic from the Agent will go directly to the repo. A Proxy is not needed for Agent Backups.
