noob questions

Post by Olifplus »

Hi there,
I'm totaly new user of Veeam B&R
Then, I have some needs to understand the spirit of the solution :)
I ran a scan which detected all windows servers and wokstations.
Nothing about my linux ones.
Could you tell me where I could find install agent file for my linux machines (bare metal and virtual ones) ?
I thought I could download easily a pre configured agent installer from my console?

the same for some of my windows 10 physical WS ?

last quesiton for now : is ther a way to access the console remotely (web browser or anything else)?

Many thanks and have a nice day

(sorry for some English errors, since I'm French)
bye

Hi @Olifplus,

I believe we're talking about the linux agents managed by Backup&Replication, so moved your thread to the dedicated forums.
Please take a look at this article to get the details.
You can create a protection group with pre-installed agents and then add the whole group to your backup job. Working with protection group, you will need to deploy Linux agent to the target machines.

If you need to work with standalone linux agents, you might be interested in this guide.

Thanks!

Thanks a lot Natalia !
Question :
Once the agent is installed and the mahcine inclued in "pre installed porteciton group", Can I move this machine from this group to another one or is it definitive?

what about our laptops which are very often outdoor.
Can I create a group able to communicate with these machines to backup it on our office's NAS ?

last : what's the way tomove this thread?

Many thanks
Olivier

One more question:
In my preinstalled protection group, I have to select which packages to export.
but I can see all linux packages come with 5.0 kernel.
My machines are installed with kernel 5.8-5.11 versions
What is the way to add these kernel versions?
Thanks

Olivier,

The computer can be included into one or several groups, can be removed from the protection group and can be added to another group. You can protect the computer with several backup jobs if you need it for some reasons. You can also configure the backup jobs for individual computers, without any protection groups (for the details, please check this step of the backup jobs creation).

Speaking of kernel version, I would recommend to check and maybe join this discussion, there's a lot of information there.

As for the threads' moving, that's an option for the moderators :)

Thanks!

A summary for future readers:

1.
Could you tell me where I could find install agent file for my linux machines (bare metal and virtual ones) ?
I thought I could download easily a pre configured agent installer from my console?
There are several options:

a) Export required packages using Computers with pre-installed agents Protection Group
b) Download it directly from the repository
c) Install a repository package on your Linux machine and run your Linux package manager to install 'veeam'
d) Unpack .msi distribution package

2.
but I can see all linux packages come with 5.0 kernel.
This one is not quite clear. Veeam Agent for Linux packages do not carry any kernels. If the packages that are provided do not support your particular kernel version, then you need to get a Linux Agent package that supports it and install it manually. After that you can add the machine into a protection group.

3.
Once the agent is installed and the mahcine inclued in "pre installed porteciton group", Can I move this machine from this group to another one or is it definitive?
Yes, but you will need to provide VBR with credentials for the Linux machine.

Thanks!
