Migrating Veeam server without backup repository

Post by William Bohn »

We plan to migrate our Veeam B&R to a new physical server but would rather just leave the current backup job files on the old server and just create new full backups with the new one. (if we have a need for them, we would just fire that box up the next month)

Question is, will this be a problem with Veeam on any syncing it wants to do for any job tasks, etc? Or will it allow all the old jobs to just make new fulls and ignore that there is no other old files in the new repository?

thanks

Yeah scheduled job runs will fail due to missing the active backup files chain... but you can always trigger an Active Full manually on all just to get them going again. No need to wait for them to fail first :)

Thank you, I was worried we might have to create all the jobs over again.

You could also copy your existing backups to the new repository and may your backup jobs into them using Map Backup. This way not only you avoid an Active Full, but you will also have all restore points available on the new server.

Or you can "Remove from backups" the existing chains and the job will automatically perform the full after being re-pointed to a new repository.
