Veeam rman plugin version 11.0.2.839

Hi,

I did install the 11.0.2.839 rman plugin today with

rpm -Uvh VeeamPluginforOracleRMAN-11.0.2.839-1.x86_64.rpm

and created a rman backup. And if I look into the /tmp/veeam_plugin_logs/oracle/RMANPluginManager.log file I see the following line:

[27.10.2021 10:50:16.642] <140502685656960> plugin_co| Module version: 11.0.0.837

11.0.0.837 was the previous version. What am I doing wrong??

can you maybe explain where VeeamPluginforOracleRMAN-11.0.2.839-1.x86_64.rpm is coming from? The latest version (11a) is VeeamPluginforOracleRMAN-11.0.100.1261-1.x86_64.rpm

Besides of that: is everything working and you just see the line in the log file? Or did anything fail?

If something failed, can you please post the case number? Because the way you upgrade sounds correct to me (I assume that you updated VBR first to 11a)

Hi Hannes,

I got it from our collegue who maintains Veeam. And is coming from this iso file: VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.0.837_20210525.iso and then the VeeamPluginforOracleRMAN-11.0.2.839-1.x86_64.rpm file from inside that iso file.
The rman backup with the new plugin did work fine. No errors. Only the the line in the log file caught my attention.

Thanks for the clarification. Last small question: is there a changelog document about the changes in the Veeeam Rman plugin versions? We would like to know what issues are solved and possible known issues. Now we are blindly deploying every new version of the plugin without knowing what we exactly are deploying.
We have >120 oracle databases so any possible issue can have an impact.

There is no such document, as number of bugs fixed between product versions is tremendous, so creating and maintaining such document don't look feasible.

We mention the most critical known issues in the Release Notes and fixed issues in What's new.

Are you experiencing a certain problem right now, it's more like a general interest?

Yes, we have issues. Have two cases open right now. But is also of general interest. We have a change process so when my change manager asks: so you want to update the rman plugin? What is the impact and what is changed in the new release?
My answer would be: I don't know. Veeam does not have a changelog document. They state that "the number of bugs fixed between product versions is tremendous, so creating and maintaining such document don't look feasible".

It's just a suggestion (to provide a changelog for the plugin). As we update the rman plugin of the test server first we can see if something strange happens. If not we continue with the production servers.

You can refer to the mentioned documents to see new enhancements or popular known issues. Also, since you have open support tickets, you can ask your support engineer whether the particular issue will be fixed down the road.
