TrueNAS expose NFS .snapshot backup
Hi All,
If using TrueNAS as a NFS 4.1 filer for VMware VMDK files and we expose ZFS snapshots is there any integration with VEEAM so that it can use those snapshots for the backup process?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi joe,
no, there is no snapshot integration in TrueNAS so you would need to use all other available backup methods other than backup from storage Snapshot.
Details on the Systems we have snapshot integration with can be found here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tegration-

Re: TrueNAS expose NFS .snapshot backup
Stefan,
How about TrueNAS Scale(Linux based) and a Linux VM that has the tape drive passed to it so it could be a VEEAM proxy? Can the proxy also have a tape drive to write directly from disk storage to the tape?
Thanks,
Joe

Re: TrueNAS expose NFS .snapshot backup
Hi Joe,
we do support Tape drives to copy backups that were created before to tape. Mind that you cannot directly backup virtual machines to tapes.
Currently only Windows OS is supported to be a Tape Server (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ape-server).
So in your case it won't work to have a Linux proxy and write VMs to the tape.
Best would be to backup your VMs to a external (outside of the same TrueNAS) repository and from there you can copy to tape or any other media we support.
Thanks
Stefan

Re: TrueNAS expose NFS .snapshot backup
so now we are running VEEAM v12 and can have a Linux machine that is a proxy, repository and Tape server!
Next when can we do the same with FreebSD, i.e. TrueNAS filer.
