ReFS, Portable/USB Hard Drives, and Veeam

Use Case - We are an MSP with a few SMB clients that are using the Veeam Agent to backup to a local USB drive(not rotated) in addition to an off-site SOBR. We're currently running into space consumption issues from taking periodic full backups to keep the chains from getting long.

The question - I know it's considered bad practice to use ReFS with an external drive due to ReFS updating when the drive connects to a newer OS Build. Since in our use case that isn't really a concern, is there any other reason why we shouldn't use ReFS on these external USB drives? (Note: While we know we could just get larger external drives for these clients, there are operational logistics involved that make this a less preferred option.)

I don't see any arguments against REFS usage except the one mentioned above. Basically, it's enough to check this list with limitations for backup repositories with rotated drives.
