replication network

Post by abatkena »

Good day! There is vmware Vcentr. I have 1 GB vcenter and esxi management vlan, network storage and 10G server. VBR joined Vlan manager. When backing up a Virtual Machine, is the network to which the VBR is connected?

Hi Anton, are you asking about the network over which the backup traffic will actually flow? It depends on the transport mode and how the proxy server that is being effectively used for processing is added to Veeam B&R. Could you please tell a bit more about your setup?

Yes, it is about the backup traffic. Vsphere acts as a proxy.
There are 9 esxi hosts and iscsi storage, communication between them is via 10G, and the ESXI management network is via 1G. Managed through VmWare Vcenter. There is a Windows Server 2016 virtual machine on which VBR is attached to the storage for backup. The VBR virtual machine is connected to a 1G control network. So the question arose of redundancy of the machine through the control network?

In the case of a virtual proxy, VM data is retrieved directly from the storage without going through the network as VM disks are attached directly to the proxy VM using VMware SCSI HotAdd. For the proxy to repository traffic flow, you can configure preferred networks.
