Question about V12 block clone move feature

Post by mkretzer »

Hi,

i don't want to hijack the "CEPH/45Drives" thread too much but i have a question about the V12 block clone move feature:

Will SOBR benefit from it? For example, if a volume i nearly filled, could Veeam start a backround move operation of the existing backup files to re-balance the disk usage? If so i guess the "moving" backup cannot run at the same time because it has to reference the old backups (at least for synthetic operations)?

Hi, Markus. We're not considering automatic-in-background SOBR load balancing for V12 as you're spot on: it's a very complex feature affecting almost all functionality that needs to access backups, while V12 is overfilled with new functionality already. There's a chance QC will agree to add manually triggered load-balancing with SOBR in maintenance mode (as it removes most complexities) but not sure yet as again, V12 is way too big even without it and does not fit our classic annual release cycle already. Thanks!

So there will be no change in behavior when a extend is nearly full?
But its possible manually on a per-Backup basis, correct? Or is move without loosing block clone not available between SOBR extends?

It's too early to say what will be available.
