Feature Request: Direct Export from Capacity Tier, choose a target directory or Repo

Post by Mildur » 1 person likes this post

Hi, today I have created an export of a vm directly from the capacity tier. The vms gets exported to the performance tier and immediately offloaded again to the capacity tier.

Scenario:
  • Veeam V11a
  • SOBR with a Performance Tier and Capacity Tier
  • Copy Policy configured
  • Test VM: 60GB
Exporting Backup directly from Object Storage leads to offload it again
I wanted to export a VM from the object Storage to deliver it to my customer.
Exporting directly from the object Storage has worked fine. But it is not possible to choose a export location.
Because Veeam exports the backup to the performance tier of the back-ed up vm, it gets immediately offloaded again to object storage. For my 60GB VM, that is not an issue. The Offload Job shows 22GB offloaded for my 60GB VM.
But what if it would be a 5TB VM? The costs could be really high if you are using cloud object storage.

Feature Request
Disable offload for exported capacity tier backups or implement a dialog to choose the target directory where the export should be stored. :-)

Thank you for considering it. If logs are needed, I will open a case.
