Some backup jobs start to failed with the "Error in the Application"

Post by lavicky »

Yesterday I added two new backup proxies and disabled two previous ones. Replication jobs continued well but 5 of 13 night Backup jobs failed in "Getting VM info from vSphere" phase with the "Error in the Application".
All VM's in failed Backup jobs work well in Replication jobs and all Backup jobs worked well previous night.
I created new Backup job instead one of the failed but with the same result.

What product version you are currently? I'm wondering cause the latest one should handle similar issues better by mentioning particular cause instead of giving generic error.

Anyway kindly keep working with our support team, they should be able to verify the debug logs and find the resolution.

Thanks!

Oooops I was convinced that I had already updated to 11a. But this was Cumulative Patch P20210525 only.
I'll update immediately.

Got it, but be aware that it does not necessarily fix the issue, but at least it should provide more meaningful information. So keep working with the support team in the meantime.

After updating VBR to 11.0.1.1261 (11a) I found it. Reverse routing from backup repository to new proxy was missing. Tasks involving automatic proxy selection failed.

Good news indeed, thanks, Tomáš, for sharing.

Was it more clearing error handling that led you to the root cause, or support engineer found something in the debug logs? Just wondering how we can improve the situation.

Yes, there were IP of backup repository in error message after update, so that led me to a solution.
I then closed the case before the support contacted me.
