File proxy location

Hello,

I need to implement file proxy for NAS with 200To licence.
I would like to know if I need to dedicate a proxy to this job explicitely or I can use standard proxy with file proxy role too ?

Then, I have a physical tape server and it will be used only for monthly and yearly backup to tape. I think it's maybe better to use it as file proxy ?
He has only 600Go hard disk and it's on sata/sas (I didn't remember) storage.

What is the best between :
1)1 dedicated file proxy (All have 3 CPU + 5Go RAM now + 80 Go HDD (can be on SSD))
2)mutual proxy + file proxy
3)physical tape server with 40cpu + 96Go RAM + 600Go HDD

more is always better

You can use any managed Windows server as file proxy. The more resources, the better of course. If your tape server is bored, then I would use it. Cache repository also needs CPU & RAM.

I don't know what your repository is. But if it is the recommended design with a physical box with internal disks, then I would put everything there.

Repository is an appollo with SOBR.

I'm not sure to understand your last idea.

Do you mean use repository as file proxy ? It's not possible for me because it's used as hardened repository.

ok, with hardened repo, you need additional proxies then, right. cache repositories can run on the Apollo servers

If your tape server is bored, then I would use it

sure, 40 cores tape server is better than 3 cores virtual file proxy (not sure whether that is the question)

3 core machines sounds like a strange number to me... anything less than 6 cores makes little sense to me from a management / price / performance / operating system overhead perspective

I didn't design the solution but I know there are 8 proxy with each 3 cores + 6 GB RAM and there is only 1 target repository with 2x200TB volume (hp appolo 4500).
We will see during next week where is the bottleneck (tomorow or in 2 weeks).
