Initiate backup when connecting USB drive

Post by jadonr »

Is it possible to configure Veeam to initiate a backup when connecting a USB drive? A lot of other backup solutions offer this as an option.

Hi Jadon

For the Veeam Agent for free and Veeam Agent for Workstation, you can schedule the backup on specific events. Starting a backup when you plug in the usb drive is one if the options.

For the Veeam Agent for Server, only time based scheduling is possible.

Veeam Agent - Backup on Specific Events

You can configure it on this step:
  • When backup target is connected

Ok, so it appears this is only possible with a Windows Agent Policy type job and NOT a Windows Agent Backup type job. That's why this stumped me originally.

That could be it.

Veeam Agent Jobs are used for the Veeam Agent for Server and have only the time based scheduling options.
Veeam Agent Policies are used for the Veeam Agent for Workstation and have the event based scheduling options.
