Manage tag and job

Post by matteu »

Hello,

I created 4 jobs to backup the environment :

BKP_D_30RP_VSS for backup daily 30 retention point with VSS
BKP_D_30RP_NO_VSS for backup daily 30 retention point without VSS

BKP_W_30RP_VSS for backup weekly30 retention point with VSS
BKP_W_30RP_NO_VSS for backup weekly 30 retention point without VSS

Now, I have 0 oracle linux VM with archive log. I think I can add them on "without VSS" and when I will swap database to archive log mode I will need to moove my backup file to the repository my VSS job is targetting right ? (I use per VM backup file for all my repositories).

Other solution is to create new tag "no aaip" and put this tag on each oracle with no archive log VM and exclude AAIP for this tag right ?

Thanks

Hello,
"right" is depending on the point of view. I would probably name the tag something with AAIP if you want to sort by application aware processing. But you can also just enable AAIP for the Oracle VMs in a NO_VSS job. To do that, add the VM to "Applications" directly. If you cannot find it, check the "Show full hierarchy" checkbox.

Manual moving of backup files sounds odd to me. Not sure I understood the concept.

Best regards,
Hannes

I would like to manage all by tag but I dont know how it will work...

If my vm is corresponding to several tag on the AAIP section how this choose is done ?
I woul like for some vm to only copy job and for other truncate them. Is it possible to do it with tag ? I don t know how to do without selecting the vm object directly. I would like to use only tag.
Can you give me an example ?

Maybe I can give an example :

I have 2 DC + 5 Exchange + 30 SQL + 40 Oracle VM and other can be ignored.
I want all these VM be processed in the same job. I use an RPO 24 tag for this on each of these VM.

I want AAIP enable + truncate log for DC + Exchange
I want AAIP enable + truncate log with backup each 30 min for 10 SQL and copy log only for 20 others.
I want AAIP enable for 20 oracle VM with truncate log each 30 min for 20 oracle and AAIP disable for 20 others.

Is it possible to do it with TAG or I need to choose default result with my "RPO 24" and then add other different settings per VM object ?

Thank you for your help :)

What I can see as solution :

1 category tag : RPO 24 and in this category several tag : DC / Exchange / SQL copy logs / SQL truncate logs / oracle truncate logs / noAAIP
In my job I select my RPO24 category as source virtual machine
In AAIP section I add all my tag with the settings I want.

I can repeat the same for an other gategory tag RPO 48h.

This should work but maybe something easier is possible ?

PS : maybe an other solution :
1 category backup RPO (with tags 24h, 48h,...)
1 category Application (with tag dc, exchange, sql copy, sql truncate, oracle copy, oracle truncate,...)

Source job VM : combined tag 24h + category application (24h+dc , 24h+exchange, 24h+sql copy, ...)

on AAIP I can add all Application tag with the settings I want

Finally I created several TAG like this :
24h_vss_oracle_copy
24h_vss_oracle_trunc
24h_vss_sql_copy
....
