Backup Remote ESX over WAN Connection

Post by scharti »

I am new to Veeam, and I would like some help.

We have some remote offices with ESX at different locations worldwide.

We want to backup the Remote Virtual machines over a WAN VPN connection to our central HQ Storage.

What is the best configuration, install Veeam at our central Site and install Proxys at every remote location,
initial backup takes maybe very long but i expect no problem with the incremental or syntetic backup, right ?

What is the best practice to achieve this, is that a good practice ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best Regards Jo

Correct.

Your best bet would be to deploy backup proxy servers close to the source VMs and use backup repository located in HQ as destination target for your backup jobs. Since you're using WAN connection, it might be worth running backup job pointing to a local repository first and then move created files to HQ and re-use them to run incremental runs only.

Hope this helps!
