Veeam agent for Linux and Mac

Post by NogNeetMachinaal »

Team,

Does the Veeam agent for Linux and Mac work similar to the Windows edition?
Meaning as a standalone backup just for a particular system?

Regarding Linux: we use Mint for the desktop and Ubuntu for the server (both the latest LTS editions).
Any limitations to be aware of?

Warm regards - Will

Hi Will

Each Veeam Agent protects one machine.
Linux Mint is not supported by the veeam Agent.

See the supported linux distributions here:

I know each agent protects one machine.
But the question was along the lines of running and configuring it independent from some central management server?
Similar to the Windows equivalent?

Regarding Linux Mint: under the hood, it runs Ubuntu-LTS.
To the best of your knowledge: would/could it work? Even if not supported?

You can choose both type of backups, depending on what you need. You can use a VBR Server, or you can install the agent as a standalone agent by yourself.
- Managed by Veeam Backup Server
- Managed by Agent

It‘s the same as with windows Agents.
Regarding Linux Mint: under the hood, it runs Ubuntu-LTS.

I don‘t know, if it works. I don‘t have a linux mint machine. But I have found a reddit post from 2 years ago, that it will work, but of course totally unsupported.

Just to add some info:

Windows has a GUI like any other app.
Linux you need to run in Terminal "veeam" to get a terminal-like GUI.

Bye!
