Veeam Backup Agent

Post by Spider67 »

GOOD MORNING, I HAVE CONFIGURED MY BACKUP SO THAT IT IS AUTOMATICALLY SAVED EVERY WEEK ON AN EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE WITH 1 TB OF STORAGE. THE BACKUP IS AROUND 600 GB AND IS STORED FOR 14 DAYS. AN INCREMENTAL BACKUP IS AUTOMATICALLY CREATED EVERY WEEK. HOWEVER, THAT MEANS THAT THE HARD DISK ONLY HAS A FULL BACKUP SPACE. FOR ME NOW THAT MEANS THAT I ALWAYS HAVE TO CREATE A NEW FULL BACKUP AFTER 14 DAYS (AFTER THE END OF THE RETENTION PERIOD) AND THAT I CAN DELETE THE INCREMENTAL BACKUPS BEFORE (THE FULL BACKUP IS AUTOMATICALLY DELETED AFTER 14 DAYS?) THEN I UNDERSTAND IT THAT IT WOULD BE MORE CORRECT TO USE A HARD DRIVE ON WHICH AT LEAST TWO COMPLETE BACKUPS ARE SPACE, SO THAT THE FIRST BACKUP IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY DELETED WHEN THE SECOND IS CREATED. OR DO I UNDERSTAND SOMETHING WRONG HERE? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP..

Hello,
please use caps lock in a way that is proper for English language - that makes it easier to read and provides better answers ;-)

I cannot follow what you mean.

Assuming that you use the free / workstation edition, the retention is explained in the user guide

Best regards,
Hannes
