Any plans to allow for a custom powershell widget?

Post by mattypenny »

Hello,

As far as I can see there's no way of setting up a custom widget to run a bit of powershell, and then alert if it returns true, or false, or similar.

Is there currently a way of doing this?

Assuming there's not....are there any plans to add this as a new feature?

My reasons for asking is as follows.

I/we have created a Powershell module which checks all sorts of things in our estate, and maintains a web-page with the results and sends out email alerts if there is a problem. I would like to move all of this into VeeamOne.

Many of the things being monitored by our scripts, for example disk space, or services being up and down, can easily be replaced by the existing VeeamOne widgets.

However, for a number of the other things being monitored I think I would need to use our own existing Powershell code. Examples would be:
- web page has a status of OK, and includes the desired text
- application has created a new file within the last 5 minutes
- database table has been written to within the last 5 minutes
- overnight backup has completed before the application process has started up
- users account is in the right format
etc etc

The builtin widgets are great, but I think we'll always have a need to be able to write specific monitors

Is this on the roadmap for VeeamOne?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Matt,

Thanks for posting. This is indeed an interesting request, however, currently, we do not have anything like that on the roadmap. May I ask you why are you specifically requesting widgets and not alarms, for example?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Fedor,

Thanks for the reply....but that's a shame :(

Re: widgets or alarms....I don't know - that's just me being ignorant. I'm new to VeeamOne and I'm just looking at whether I might be able to use VeeamOne instead of the stuff I've written myself.

The answers the same either way though is it?

Thanks anyway, and have a good weekend

Hi Matt,

Thanks for getting back. We do appreciate any feedback about our products.

Yes, the answer would be the same, but I'm interested in understanding what we can potentially do to change that :). If we, let's say, allow creating custom alarms based on custom scripts would that help? I.e. allow VONE to execute a script with configured frequency and define the triggers based on the outcome of the script.

What else would you like to add to Veeam ONE to make your life easier?

Thanks

Hello,

sorry for the slight delay in replying :) ..... I missed the last response somehow, and I just re-discovered the conversation via a a web search.

Yes, that's exactly what I'd want. Some of the metrics I've got set up outside of veeamone are so specific I can't imagine that there would be any other way to do it

Thanks!

Hello Matt,
Interesting thread. We are planning on expand current Triggered Alarms API, so perhaps we could extend the funcionality to be able to ingest alarms results assigned to specific Inventory objects.

We will discuss internally and come back to you.

Thank you
