ESXi 5.5

Hi,

Should i be able to add ESXi 5.5 to a v11 Veeam install? I assumed it would be out of date, but then foudn the below link, which suggests it might be possible?

when trying to add the host i get a generic "the remote server returned an error: (404) Not found." - i do get the certificate prompt prior to this, so its getting their to some extent.

Yes indeed. When unsure about supported OS/platform/app versions, it's always best to refer to the System Requirements documentation. While they are always available in the User Guide of course, I personally prefer the Release Notes document just because it accompanies every download (including Previous Versions downloads) and so is always available at your fingertips

This error message is kind of generic and can be caused by a lot of issues.
For example vShield Plug-ins that were not correctly unregistered, the https server crushed, ...

I would start with rebooting the ESXi 5.5 server and check again.
Run through the wizard in Veeam again (even if you have added the host successfully to check certificates).
Check ESXi log and error reporting on what error this cause.

Maybe update ESXi 5.5 to latest patch level?

Create a support ticket at Veeam or Vmware to check.

From what I understand then if it is possible to backup VM of an ESXI 5.5 from a V11 console.
I hope you can help me, since I have an environment like 5.5, and I want to know if it is possible.

In fact, what I want to do is to migrate those VMs from that vphere 5.5 infrastructure to vsphere 7.0 u2, the backup issue is clear to me that it is possible to do it, but the replication issue I don't know if someone has already made such a big version jump.

VM Replication uses the same technologies as VM backup and restore.
