Enterprise console and Storage snapshot

Post by solumax »

Hello,
Actually, it's only possible to restore a entire virtual machine from a storage snapshot through the Enterprise Console.
Is it plan to allow file level restore operations?
We need this feature for restore operation delegations.

Thanks

Could you please elaborate on your request: do you mean Enterprise Manager or Veeam B&R console? Enterprise Manager doesn't support any type of restore from storage snapshots, while file-level restore is already supported in the main Veeam B&R console.

I'm talking about Enterprise Manager console.
Everything is working fine from B&R Console we need Enterprise manager for delegation.
Do you know if FLR from storage snapshot in Enterprise Manager is in the roadmap?
Thanks

It is, but not in the short-term one.

[MERGED] Enterprise Manager Self Service Restore Feature Request

Post by Peter Just »

Hello- My company leverages storage snapshots for certain servers. Yes, I know it's not a true backup. Not my call. In any event, we use Veeam to perform restores from the storage snapshots using the console. It works well. We'd like to use this in conjunction with our self-service portal. At the moment, this isn't supported.

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... l?ver=95u4

We use Nimble by the way. Is this something that Veeam can add to the roadmap?

Yes, but what happens is that when you run a restore, a clone of the VM is mounted (powered off). Then you can choose the files you want to restore. 99% of the time it's file level restores.

Just chiming in to add my +1. Using VEM to be able to do an FLR from storage snapshot would be great!

I will add in a very strong +1. We are taking the first steps of moving from Cloudberry to Veeam which I thought would be easy, but due to this issue it's just because an enormous pain point. We have multiple divisions and need to provide granular restore capabilities. Since we use NetApp snapshots, the only way to do that is through multiple Veeam B&R servers, one per division. Super inefficient and makes the path to actually doing this much more daunting.

Hi Tim, appreciate the feedback. As mentioned, we have a requirement logged to address this concern, however, it is not high in the list due to priority/demand.

Thanks foggy. I would hope the priority goes up. It's a huge pain point and is slowing down our ability to actually move forward with Veeam.

The more requests - the higher the priority. ;)

This is the lack of snapshot support in enterprise manager coupled with the inability to do granular permissions inside of VBRs. Creates such a bloated mess. If i want to provide someone self service access to restore storage based snapshots i have to deploy a new VBR every single time for each team with an inclusion list of only the volumes that they need access to. This is my biggest gripe with Veeam Backup Software by far. Please Give this some priority...
